This course is especially designed for medical professionals who wish to cross-train, or further develop their skills in polysomnography. This is a highly regarded, intensive course that has helped hundreds of technologists, respiratory therapists and physicians enhance their day-to-day practice through a better understanding of the methods used in performing high quality sleep testing. The course includes practical hands-on workshops, and is limited to a maximum of 12 participants.

Topics presented and discussed include:

  • Normal human sleep
  • Introduction to clinical polysomnography
  • Sleep stage and arousal scoring
  • Abnormal record scoring
  • Diagnostic aspects of sleep disordered breathing
  • Polysomnography instrumentation
  • Electrode and sensor application
  • Overnight testing procedures
  • CPAP and bi-level positive airway pressure titration
  • Adaptive servo-ventilation
  • Measurement and evaluation of excessive daytime sleepiness
  • Scoring variables and report formulation
  • Patient follow-up and therapy compliance

Please note:

Participants must have sufficient background in respiratory care, nursing or EEG; or must be currently employed by (or referred by) a sleep center or respiratory care facility. For those seeking an entry-level program, we recommend contacting the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) for a list of preparatory courses.
